What is Cost of Online Degree Program

If we see, majority of online degree colleges charge by the hours of a semester and not by value of the degree. 60 semester hours are required by associate degree and 120 by a bachelor's degree program. Usually cost of both classroom and online degree is same.

I have observed tuition fee as low as US $ 35 for one semester hour as in community college, in-state tuition and as high as US $ 1300 for one hour of semester as in prestigious research university.

I will assume US $ 250 as very cheap and $ 400 or up as my maximum though I will go to $700 for a couple of schools. What you consider affordable though depends on what sort of financial aid you can get and how much money you have available.

If you get education online or in classroom for $ 250 per hour then the amount of total course of bachelor's degree will be $ 30,000 and on the other hand if you choose a school for $ 400 per hour then total cost of the bachelor's degree would be $48,000.

If you are getting training in community college for the associates first and you are paying around $50 per semester hour, the associates would cost you $2500

If we talk about UMass online charges, these are about $400 per hour. 120 hours would cost you $48,000 There is a huge difference in out of State and in-State e.g Out of State tuition at Florida State will run you about $610 per hour i.e $73,200 but in-state is only about $130 per hour i.e $15,600. Now come to Peru State College (Nebraska), they will charge you $168.50 per hour for online classes so their bachelor's would cost you a total of about $20,220

The University of Phoenix Online offers a full Bachelor's degree for 60 credits at $515/credit, total will be $30,900. You can have Bachelor of Business Administration at American Intercontinental University Online at a cost of $30,560.The Kaplan University offers a $330/credit charges for their BS in Communications which are approximately equal to $60,000.

So online cost of degrees greatly depends upon type of school and class of degree.A community college in a well-funded state with in-state tuition will be least expensive and elite private universities will be very expensive. If we talk about "as seen on TV" schools and colleges, these are sometimes more expensive than the Ivy League online courses and colleges.

You must know that Online schools tend to vary in price, so we could say they are more expensive, but that is relative. If we compare these online courses with Harvard, I will say these are less expensive.

You must keep in mind, that the college/university is accredited or not. You should market yourself and not the degree or college. Traditional universities are offering many degrees that you can get through online methods. If you see Distance Learning Alliance, they have a list of these traditional online schools. If name of school is important for you, you must focus on Distance Learning Alliance for list of these online schools and colleges.
